Crisis Services

If you or someone you love is in a mental health crisis, help is available right now. Call, text, or walk in. You will not face it alone.

First light of sunrise over calm open water.

A crisis does not check the clock, so neither do we. Whatever tonight looks like, there is a trained person ready to answer, a door that is open, and a plan for tomorrow morning.

If you are reading this for someone else, you are already helping. Call the same numbers. Our counselors will help you figure out the next step, even if the person you love is not ready yet.

What to expect

  1. A calm voice, fast

Call or text 988, or call our local line at (757) 555-0111. A trained counselor answers around the clock. No script, no hold music, no judgment.

  2. A safe place to walk into

The Old Wharf Crisis and Access Center is open 24 hours a day, every day. Walk in, or bring someone. A clinician sees you promptly in a quiet, private space.

  3. Support where you are

When leaving home is not possible, our mobile crisis team can come to you anywhere in the region, in partnership with local responders.

  4. A next step that sticks

Before you leave, you have a written safety plan and a follow-up appointment, usually within 48 hours. We call to check on you. You are not a case number.

How to start

In an emergency where someone is in immediate danger, call 911 and say it is a mental health emergency. For everything else, call or text 988, call (757) 555-0111, or walk into Old Wharf at any hour.
